Brit through the years.

Her green bikini'd performance with the snake. Her crystal-embellished nude catsuit. Her disastrous “comeback” performance in 2007. And most infamous of all, that Madonna kiss.

Nearly all of Britney Spears’ iconic awards-show performances have happened at the Video Music Awards. On Tuesday, MTV announced that the singer will make her VMAs return on Aug. 28, performing her new single Make Me… with G-Eazy.

Spears will visit the VMAs two days after her ninth studio album, Glory, drops on Aug. 26.

The last time Spears debuted a new phase of her career on the VMAs was in 2007, following her shaved-head public breakdown. Her performance of Gimme More didn’t do much to help her public standing, as critics panned her distracted performance and blonde weave.

This was a rough one.

In the years since, she’s regained her status as a pop icon, thanks to consistent releases, a rehabbed public image and, most recently, a successful residency in Las Vegas.

Will her VMAs return continue Spears’ upward career trajectory? Tune in Sunday night at 9 p.m. to see.
