Twitter is not here for another ‘Hidden Fences’ flub on the Oscars red carpet

If you make a mistake at the Oscars, chances are, Twitter will find you.

That’s what happened to People editor-in-chief Jess Cagle on Sunday when he confused the Oscar nominated films Hidden Figures and Fences during a pre-ceremony red carpet show.

“You just happen to have these extraordinary movies like Hidden Fences and Moonlight,” he said before backtracking. “Sorry, Hidden Figures, and Fences and Moonlight.”

This isn’t the first time the "Hidden Fences" flub has occurred. Jenna Bush Hager and Michael Keaton made the same mix-up during the Golden Globes, leaving Twitter hyper-vigilant to make sure the two films with majority-black casts were given the respect they deserved. But much to viewers' dismay, it happened 10 minutes into the ABC broadcast.

So even though Cagle corrected his mistake, that did not stop people from tweeting their frustration and disappointment about the red carpet host.
