Prince's Paisley Park museum opens to the public
Despite zoning concerns, Paisley Park opened to the public as planned Thursday.
Prince fans were welcomed to his Chanhassen, Minn., estate for the first round of guided tours, which continue Saturday and Oct. 14. Lucky ticket-holders took to social media to share their reactions to the converted museum, which reportedly houses the late singer's ashes in the main entrance.
Other fans — many of whom wore purple for the occasion — said they toured his personal office and recording studio, in addition to various rooms that were apparently untouched since his April death of an accidental drug overdose. Paintings of the icon graced the walls, and trophies including his Grammy and MTV Video Music Awards lined the hallways. Meanwhile, concert footage, Purple Rain and unreleased music played in others.
The museum also houses a cafeteria; its menu is said to include vegetarian items such as kale, beets and quinoa.
The Paisley Park gift shop boasts purple bags, a Paisley Park poster and t-shirts with Purple Rain lyrics on the back.
Cars with Prince-themed license plates were spotted in the parking lot, too.
Paisley Park was set to begin daily tours Thursday, but hit a snag earlier this week when the Chanhassen City Council postponed a rezoning request due to worries over traffic and parking. The council granted temporary permits for three days, and will vote again on the request by Dec. 20.
