BuzzFeed Editor in Chief Ben Smith says he wants his news staff to report stories with "scale and impact."

BuzzFeed, a digital news and entertainment website, said Tuesday that it plans to split its main businesses into two units to generate more revenue from video ads.

BuzzFeed News, its main news operation that will include its breaking news and beat-reporting teams, will continue to be run by editor Ben Smith. It also plans to expand its news video team.

BuzzFeed Entertainment Group, a newly created unit, will house all entertainment content teams, including video. It will be led by Ze Frank, president of BuzzFeed Motion Pictures.

“As digital video becomes ubiquitous, every major initiative at BuzzFeed around the world will find an expression as video” according to a staff note Tuesday by founder and CEO Jonah Peretti.
