Area school districts are again offering free summer lunch programs to children as part of an ongoing initiative.

The Summer Lunch Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and administered by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

St. Francis and South Milwaukee announced their programs and schedules in separate press releases. A site is Cudahy is tied to a nonprofit center.

St. Francis

For the third year in a row, the St. Francis School District is continuing its commitment to keep children healthy while school is out by providing a Free Healthy Lunch meal to all children 18 years of age and younger.  

The lunch program will run every weekday that the Summer School/Summer Cool programs are in session (Monday, June 13, through Friday, July 1, and Tuesday, July 5, through Friday, July 22).  Lunch will be provided from 11:45 a.m. until 1 p.m. on those days in the cafeteria of Deer Creek, 3680 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.   

There are no income or registration requirements in either the Summer School/Summer Cool programs to participate in the free lunch program.

South Milwaukee

The South Milwaukee School District will provide a free lunch program again this year to all children 18 years and younger.

It's also available to those older than 18 who have been determined by a state or local public educational agency to be mentally or physically disabled and who also participate in a public or private nonprofit school program during the regular school year. Children in neighboring communities can also participate.

Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays at the South Milwaukee High School, 801 15th Ave. The Summer Lunch Program will begin Monday, June 19, and will continue through Friday, Aug. 4 (except for Tuesday, July 4).

Meals are provided to eligible children regardless of race, color, national origin, age, gender or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of meal service.

Cudahy

Youth in Motion, 3244 E. College Ave., is offering summer lunches as well through the sponsorship of The Milwaukee Center for Independence's Summer Food Service Program.

The program is offered weekdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 12 through Aug. 25.

Eligibility follows the same guidelines as those listed above.
