Eight sailors were hospitalized Friday after an arresting gear parted on the carrier Dwight D. Eisenhower while an E-2C Hawkeye was landing.

Eight sailors were injured Friday aboard the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower after an arresting gear on the flight deck malfunctioned while an airplane was landing.

All of the sailors are in a stable condition with non-life threatening injuries, Naval Air Force Atlantic said in a Friday news release.

The Navy said the sailors were injured when an arresting gear parted during a routine landing by an E-2C Hawkeye aircraft. The injured sailors were working on the flight deck at the time of the accident.

"The aircraft regained flight and returned safely to its base at Norfolk Naval Station Chambers Field,” the Navy said. No aircrew members were injured.

An investigation into the accident has started.

The Eisenhower is currently conducting its conducting training exercises off the coast of Virginia for an upcoming deployment.
