#NationalVoterRegistrationDay: How to register

Across the country, registration events are being held in honor of National Voter Registration Day. 

On Twitter, people are using the hasthag #IRegistered, #NationalVoterRegistrationDay and #VoterRegistrationDay to encourage people to register to vote. Twitter is promoting #IRegistered in the United States Trends section, with a patriotic hat and 2016 appearing in tweets with the hashtag.

From Bill Clinton to Katy Perry, the message is clear: Your vote counts.

In 2008, some six million people were unable to vote because they did not register to vote, either because they didn’t know how or missed a deadline, according to NationalVoterRegistrationDay.org.

This year, with recent polls showing presidential candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are neck-in-neck, the stakes are higher than ever.
