Monmouth University’s polling on the presidential race has found Donald Trump doing better with men than women in most states. But in Missouri, his gender gap is reversed.

Monmouth’s poll of Missouri voters likely to cast ballots in November’s presidential election shows the Republican presidential nominee holding a 1-point lead over Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Surprisingly, Trump is currently doing better among white women (54% to 36%) in Missouri than he is among white men (45% to 37%).

Trump certainly has a chance to prevail in the Show Me State, said pollster Patrick Murray. Missouri didn’t go for Barack Obama in either of the last two presidential elections. Republican John McCain won by 1 point in 2008, and Mitt Romney won by 10 in 2012.

“The race was a squeaker the last time there was a vacancy in the Oval Office. In that respect, this year looks more like 2008 than 2012 when Romney won,’’ Murray said.

Trump’s total support in Missouri is 44%, Clinton is at 43%, 8% intend to vote for Libertarian Gary Johnson, and 6% are undecided or name another candidate.

The poll over four days through Monday and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.
