Warriors' Stephen Curry hosts youth clinic during China trip

Stephen Curry is back in Asia.

The two-time NBA MVP — fresh off his second championship with the Golden State Warriors — spent a portion of his annual tour of Asia in Beijing, where he conducted a Jr. NBA youth basketball clinic on Saturday. The clinic — which also featured Curry's brother, Dallas Mavericks guard Seth Curry — was just the latest example of the NBA's initiative to encourage boys and girls across the globe to learn basketball at a young age.

"Being able to be in a position now where I'm able to inspire fans across the world is something that's truly special," Curry told reporters at the event. "It's a great reminder of that when I come here every year, especially the last three years, to really experience the passion for basketball here and to really share my joy for the game. ... I say that a lot, but that's really what this is about. How much fun I have playing basketball, I feel like that can be the same for a lot of people."

The Jr. NBA — the league's global youth basketball program — is designed to teach basketball fundamentals and off-court values at a grassroots level. The NBA reached more than 18 million youth in 53 countries through its youth participation initiatives during the 2016-17 season, according to the league.

"What the Jr. NBA has been able to do to share the game with so many kids here in China, it's unbelievable," Curry said. " ... (Basketball) can really spread wild in the country, and I think that's a huge benefit to everybody, no matter what age you are, to really get the experiences of basketball and playing with the team and understanding what that means, and I think we kind of demonstrated that today."

The Jr. NBA events continue this week in Shenzhen and Shanghai, where Brooklyn Nets point guard Jeremy Lin will host clinics on July 25 and 29, respectively.

As for the rest of Curry's tour, which was put together by Under Armour, the star point guard dropped to do push-ups on a glass floor 37 stories up in Beijing's CCTV tower, attended the Peking opera, competed against Chinese Olympic gold medal-winning table tennis player Ding Ning, and was wowed by a face-mask changing performance during a traditional hot pot meal.
