New Orleans Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday (11) signals against the Utah Jazz during the first quarter at the Smoothie King Center.

When the New Orleans Pelicans host the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night, every shot Jrue Holiday makes and every assist he dishes out will be worth more than just a tally in a box score.

The Pelicans announced Wednesday that Holiday, playing his fourth season in New Orleans, will donate $1,000 for each point and assist he records during the game to support those who were impacted by the tornadoes that hit southern Louisiana on Feb. 7.

“It’s a shame that in the matter of minutes these storms produced such violent tornadoes that literally upended the lives of so many residents of New Orleans,” Holiday said in a statement. “This financial pledge is a unique way I thought of that can have a positive impact on some of the peoples’ lives and help them get back on their feet and assist them in getting their lives back in order. It’s a blessing that nobody lost their lives in the tornadoes, but that doesn’t mean the work is done. I’ve been impressed with how our city and its residents have responded to those in need and this is my way of helping out.”

Holiday is averaging 15.9 points and 7.4 assists on the season, but has had six games where he's recorded at least 20 points and 10 assists.

“We are extremely grateful and thankful to Jrue Holiday for his generosity and thoughtfulness and his rapid response to the members of our community that have lost so much,” said Andy Kopplin, president and CEO of the Greater New Orleans Foundation. “His contribution will go directly to aiding the hundreds of families that suffered significant losses due to the tornadoes.”

The game is at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
