Some fans are starting conspiracy theories about Hugh Freeze's resignation at Ole Miss.

Several Ole Miss fans took to social media to opine on the real reason behind Hugh Freeze's unexpected resignation as Rebels football coach on Thursday.

Athletics director Ross Bjork told reporters that Freeze would have been forced out had he not stepped down due to a pattern of inappropriate conduct, including calling an escort service from a university-issued phone.

But, as is often the case on Twitter and Facebook, many didn't buy that official explanation.

Several conspiracy theories emerged. One suggested that Freeze was out of a job because Alabama head coach Nick Saban pressured the NCAA to investigate him. Another claimed Freeze was targeted because he's a Christian and that Bjork fabricated the escort-service evidence.

Others had some fun with all of the conspiracy talk and blamed Russia.
