OXNARD, Calif. – Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has said before he doesn’t think Ezekiel Elliott deserves a suspension from the NFL, which is wrapping up an investigation into domestic violence issues involving the running back.

And he is not backing down.

“There’s nothing,” Jones said Sunday at the start of training camp. “I have reviewed everything. There is absolutely nothing, not one thing I’ve seen that has anything to do with domestic violence. I’ve seen nothing.”

A woman claiming to be Elliott’s former girlfriend filed a police report on July 22, 2016, in Columbus, Ohio, alleging Elliott assaulted her several times.

Elliott was not arrested and no charges were filed.

The same woman had called police in Florida in February of that year claiming she injured her shoulder when Elliott shoved her against a wall. No charges were filed.

Scrutiny on Elliott also included him being involved in an altercation at a Dallas nightclub, when a man suffered a broken nose (police have suspended investigation of the case), which comes months after he pulled down a woman's top during a public St. Patrick’s Day celebration.

A player does not need to be charged to be disciplined under the current NFL domestic abuse policy.

Recent media reports said the NFL is nearing the end of its investigation and ESPN said Elliott’s team is bracing for a short suspension, which he could appeal.
