Delta Air Lines announced three European routes from the Northeast starting in the summer of 2017.

From Boston, Delta will add seasonal service to Dublin. The flights will launch May 25, with Delta flying one daily round-trip flight on 164-seat Boeing 757 narrowbody aircraft through Oct. 27. Delta already serves Dublin from its hubs in Atlanta and New York JFK.

At New York JFK, Delta will launch seasonal service to Lisbon and will restore a route to Berlin that the carrier had last flew in December 2011. The Lisbon flights will be on Boeing 757s while the Berlin service -- also seasonal will be on Boeing 767-300 widebody jets. Those daily routes are scheduled to operate until Oct. 27 and Sept. 4, respectively.

Delta and Korean Air rekindle a partnership grown frosty

"We are pleased to offer nonstop service from New York to both Lisbon and Berlin for the summer 2017 season, enabling Americans to enjoy two popular European destinations during some of the busiest travel months," Henry Kuykendall, Delta's VP-New York, says in a statement. "Both cities have seen an increase in U.S. visitor numbers over the past several years, and Delta is pleased to help contribute to this growth through greater connectivity at JFK."

Delta will face competition on all three of the routes.

From Boston, Ireland’s Aer Lingus flies nonstop between Boston and Dublin. At New York JFK, both Aer Lingus and American (seasonal) fly nonstop to Dublin. And Delta will go head-to-head against German carrier Air Berlin on the JFK-Berlin route.

New York JFK is a busy international hub for Delta. The airline also has moved to expand its presence in Boston during the past two years. By 2017, Delta says it will have added about 22% in additional seat capacity as compared to June 2014.
